ABOUT 妹尾 和加子 / WAKAKO SENOO
女子美術大学で洋画を学び、東京藝術大学大学院では壁画を専攻。石彫・モザイク・フレスコ・ステンドグラスなど、絵画と建築と深く関わる表現を学びました。
その後、ステンドグラス作家・平山健雄氏に師事し光ステンド工房で12年間教会や歴史的建造物・学校・公共空間などのステンドグラスの修復・制作に携わりました。
そこで出会った石やガラス、光、建築、そして長い時間を経た作品との経験は、現在の制作の基盤となっています。
私にとって石やガラスは光を受け、時間を重ね、場所の記憶を抱え移ろいゆく日常と長い時間を受け止める素材であり
その間にある関係を探ることが、私の制作のひとつの軸となっています。
現在は、「ALMA STAINED GLASS」を営みながらステンドグラスを中心とした制作・修復と、モザイクやフレスコを含む作品制作、技法の指導を行っています。
異なる素材や技法を行き来しながら暮らしの中にある小さな記憶をすくい上げ、それぞれの場所に新たな時間を刻んでいく。
そうした素材と記憶との関わりを大切にしながら、経験と感性を重ねひとつひとつの作品を制作しています。
ABOUT WAKAKO SENOO
I studied oil painting at Joshibi University of Art and Design and later specialized in mural painting at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts. There, I studied forms of expression closely connected to both painting and architecture, including stone carving, mosaic, fresco, and stained glass.
I subsequently studied under stained glass artist Ken’o Hirayama and spent twelve years at Hikari Stained Glass Studio, where I was involved in the restoration and production of stained glass for churches, historic buildings, schools, and public spaces.
My experiences with stone, glass, light, architecture, and works that have endured through long periods of time have become the foundation of my practice today.
For me, stone and glass are materials that receive light, accumulate time, and hold the memory of a place.
They stand between the fleeting nature of everyday life and the long passage of time. Exploring the relationship between these two is one of the central elements of my practice.
Today, alongside running ALMA STAINED GLASS, I work primarily in stained glass production and restoration, while also creating works in mosaic and fresco and teaching these techniques.
Moving between different materials and techniques, I gather small fragments of memory from everyday life and give them a new presence within each place.
By valuing the relationship between material and memory, I bring together my experiences and sensibility to create each work, one piece at a time.
